USN-4500-1: bsdiff vulnerabilities

bsdiff could be made to crash or run programs as your login if it opened a specially crafted file.



  • bsdiff - generate/apply a patch between two binary files


It was discovered that bsdiff mishandled certain input. If a user were tricked
into opening a malicious file, an attacker could cause bsdiff to crash or
potentially execute arbitrary code.

Update instructions

The problem can be corrected by updating your system to the following package versions:

Ubuntu 16.04

In general, a standard system update will make all the necessary changes.
