Ubuntu for IBM Z and LinuxONE
IBM Z and LinuxONE leverage open technology solutions and mission-critical hardware to meet the requirements of the new data centre. They combine the best of open source to offer cloud service providers and IBM's enterprise customers unprecedented performance, security and resiliency, combined with lower TCO. Ubuntu 18.04 LTS is now available to all IBM Z and LinuxONE customers, and Ubuntu Server LTS 20.04 is targeted for availability in May 2020.
Ubuntu for IBM Power Systems
IBM Power Systems are the smart choice for data-intensive workloads with high-performance needs. Power Systems are especially optimised for Mobile, Social, Cloud, Machine Learning, Big Data and Analytics workloads. Ubuntu enablement and tooling such as Juju make managing and deploying those workloads easy.
PowerAI Vision, running on Ubuntu is an enterprise-grade toolset to quickly roll out an AI program. Using popular open-source deep learning frameworks it eliminates the need for coding to provide a solution for data-intensive AI at a minimal cost.
Private cloud with Ubuntu and IBM Z or LinuxONE
Canonical and IBM collaborate to let enterprises build their private cloud on IBM hardware and run workloads ranging from secure blockchain services to generic IT.
With IBM Hyper Protect Virtual Servers (the evolution of IBM secure service containers technology), applications can be protected from external and internal threats on IBM Z and LinuxONE servers. Applications including containerised applications using microservices benefit from tamper protection at installation, restricted administrator access and automatic encryption of data in flight and at rest.
Canonical also adds support of OpenStack and Kubernetes to Ubuntu on IBM Z and LinuxONE, making it easier for developers and operations teams to develop and manage Linux applications and containers across the hybrid multi-cloud.
Multi-cloud solutions on Ubuntu
The IBM Cloud public cloud infrastructure uses Ubuntu as a host operating system. In addition, Canonical can provide an optimised Ubuntu image for the IBM hardware with a custom kernel, a minimal size, livepatch and support.
