This April saw our new release, Ubuntu 15.04! We also have some great webinars, training courses and product announcements to tell you about and some exciting partner ecosystem news for you. Meanwhile, we’re getting ready for OpenStack Summit in Vancouver – we hope to see you all there! So dive in and enjoy!
Webinar: Designing & Sizing OpenStack for Success
Designing your cloud with the right hardware is a critical decision you need to make when adopting OpenStack. It’s essential that you get it right or your cloud project go up in smoke! In this webinar Arturo Suarez (Canonical), Victor Estival (Canonical) and Johnny Wang (Quanta) will explore some of the different design options for your OpenStack cloud and what hardware decisions you must make to be successful.
When: Tuesday 26th May 2015, 9am BST (British Summer Time) / 4pm CST (China Standard Time)
Ubuntu at OpenStack Summit Vancouver
We have an action-packed week planned for the summit. We will be covering the status and roadmap of Ubuntu OpenStack, the world’s leading OpenStack distribution, and discuss how many of the super-users run OpenStack at scale based on Ubuntu. This summit we will be paying special attention to OpenStack with containers, 3rd party SDN technologies and the easiest, fastest way to get up and running with Kilo.
Ubuntu OpenStack Fundamentals Training
The Ubuntu OpenStack Fundamentals Training course is an intensive 3-day, hands-on classroom-based course of lectures and lab work taking place in various cities around the world. The course has been designed by the experts in our Cloud Engineering team to be the best introduction for setting up and running Ubuntu OpenStack clouds. The next available training course will be in Vancouver, right before OpenStack Summit 2015!
Here comes Kilo and 15.04!
This month we released Ubuntu 15.04, codenamed Vivid Vervet, with a host of new features for clouds and servers. At Canonical, we see 15.04 as being all about containers. And OpenStack. And containers on OpenStack. However there are a host of other new features that are important too. Read about them here.
For a deep dive into 15.04 and how you can get working with OpenStack, watch our on-demand webinar “OpenStack Kilo – what’s new and why it matters”.
What’s new with Juju?
Canonical believes that a new modeling language is needed for modern applications. This belief has influenced us whilst building Juju, our cloud modeling and orchestration solution. Samuel Cozannet explains why you should care and applies these high-level concepts to build a modular and scalable sentiment analysis application using Juju with Kafka, ZooKeeper, Storm and Node.js.
Partner ecosystem highlights
In March and April, Canonical welcomed PLUMGrid, DataArt, FortyCloud, 10Duke, DataStax, and Codership to the Charm Partner Programme. Look for their charms in the coming months! Partner charms now available in the Charm Store include Talligent‘s OpenBook Billing Engine, an OpenStack billing solution; Zabbix, the popular open source monitoring software; and AppScale, a platform-as-a-service which allows users to deploy and host their own Google App Engine applications.
For more information on these charms, and over 300 other solutions, please visit jujucharms.com.
During April we were also delighted to announce our new 3-year partnership with Ericsson to support our customers with proven cloud technology and drive innovation in the telco and service provider space.
