CVE-2008-5702

Publication date 22 December 2008

Last updated 24 July 2024

Ubuntu priority

Buffer underflow in the ibwdt_ioctl function in drivers/watchdog/ib700wdt.c in the Linux kernel before 2.6.28-rc1 might allow local users to have an unknown impact via a certain /dev/watchdog WDIOC_SETTIMEOUT IOCTL call.

From the Ubuntu Security Team

It was discovered that the ib700 watchdog timer did not correctly check buffer sizes. A local attacker could send a specially crafted ioctl to the device to cause a system crash, leading to a denial of service.
