Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) is a remote sensing technology that is central to autonomous driving and advanced driver assistance systems enabling vehicle safety. Given the high pace of innovation and the complexity of the projects, MicroVision’s developers often need computing environments with unique and exacting specifications.
We realised that our existing approach wasn’t working. There was too much involvement from IT, and it was too slow. Our developers are highly skilled, so we needed to give them more power and autonomy.

This case study explores how MicroVision migrated from a legacy virtualisation platform to a Charmed OpenStack private cloud, as well as discusses what is the next step on MicroVision’s roadmap.
Highlights:
- MicroVision migrated from a legacy virtualisation platform to a Charmed OpenStack private cloud
- Users can now deploy and configure their own VMs, dramatically boosting productivity
- Charmed OpenStack and Juju enable MicroVision to scale its infrastructure seamlessly and cost-effectively
