ROSCon is where the robotics community comes together, and Canonical is thrilled to be there. We are the publisher of Ubuntu, the base OS for the Robot Operating System since ROS began in 2007. We have grown up alongside this community, and we are glad to be back.
It is time to go “production ready” with ROS and Ubuntu. Come and meet the team to talk about taking your robots out of the lab and onto a real fleet. We will be on hand to discuss production deployment, security and compliance, over-the-air updates, edge AI, and long-term support, with live demos to show you how it all fits together.
If you want to reserve some time with the team, schedule a meeting here or fill in the form on this page. We would love to hear what you are building!
The heavy lift of taking robots to production
A ROS 2 application that runs in the lab is one thing. Running it reliably across a fleet in the field is another challenge entirely.
Production robots need a solid, secure foundation and a way to manage devices at scale. Build all of that yourself, and you pull engineering time away from your core IP. Ubuntu handles the hard parts of the platform, so your team can stay focused on the robot:
- A production-ready OS with patching and maintenance for up to 15 years, through Ubuntu Pro.
- CRA and FIPS compliance built in, ready for the frameworks your customers ask about.
- Application packaging and safe over-the-air updates through snaps.
- Fleet monitoring and CVE patching through Canonical Landscape.
ESM for ROS: security maintenance up to 15 years
ROS is the most used middleware for robotics in the world. But any ROS version older than five years reaches end of life, and that includes every ROS 1 release.
As part of Ubuntu Pro, Canonical offers Expanded Security Maintenance (ESM) for ROS that extends security maintenance for all versions, up to 15 years. ESM covers more than ROS too. It maintains over 36,000 of the most popular open source packages, including OpenSSL, OpenCV, Gazebo, and PX4. Your robots stay secure and compliant, long after upstream support ends.
Live demo: modular robotics and vision architecture
Take control of a leader-follower SO-101 robotic arm, and watch dynamic vision-based protective stopping in action. A single monocular camera feeds AI models that trigger a protective stop the moment they detect a person or an object.
The demo shows how Ubuntu Pro and snaps simplify production deployment of ROS applications. You can swap AI vision applications at runtime, with no downtime and no redeployment. This is simplified robotics deployment, live on the show floor.
Workshop: From 10 to 10,000: Scaling ROS and Ubuntu in Production
Got a working ROS 2 application, and need to run it across a real fleet? This hands-on workshop gives you a repeatable path to production.
We start with over-the-air updates on a deployed fleet, so your robots stay current in the field. You will see us package a ROS 2 application as a snap, then push a live update to a running robot.
From there, we get into what production robots really demand: EtherCAT for real-time motor control, edge inference that runs locally with no cloud round trip, snaps working with Zenoh, and Rust applications shipped as snaps. We also show where Ubuntu Core, the immutable OS for devices, fits into the stack.
By the end, you will have a path you can repeat yourself. Every attendee gets the project documentation to try the setup at home.
