# Get the source code

Launchpad’s source code exists in a Git repository, and you can clone it using
Git.

Please note that currently Launchpad can only be built and run on Ubuntu 20.04
LTS or newer.

The images/icons are still copyrighted traditionally, to protect Launchpad’s
visual identity, but they’re shipped with the code and are fine to use for
development and testing purposes.
If you launch a production server, it needs to look different and have a
different name, since ‘Launchpad’ is a trademark.

## Overview

Launchpad is a core of service-specific code surrounding various third-party
libraries.

The process of building Launchpad locally requires a number of steps. You can
follow the quick start instructions in [Running](https://ubuntu.com/docs/launchpad/developer/how-to/get-started/running-quickstart/index.html.md#set-up-and-run-launchpad-quickstart) or
the advanced instructions in [Running](https://ubuntu.com/docs/launchpad/developer/how-to/get-started/running/index.html.md#set-up-and-run-launchpad-advanced).

## Clone the repository

If you just want to grab the development source code branch:

code:

```default
git clone https://git.launchpad.net/launchpad
```
