Selecting hardware

Using Ubuntu certified hardware makes it quick and easy to get started with IoT on Ubuntu. Canonical has certified a selection of off-the-shelf boards for Ubuntu Core. Customers can choose one, and benefit from the shortest time to market. Alternatively, customers can purchase Canonical’s device enablement service as an add-on to get any board of their choice certified for Ubuntu.

IoT application development could start independently from custom hardware support. All Ubuntu Core applications are packaged as snaps. Snaps can be tested locally, in a virtual machine or on an already supported hardware.

Canonical also can port drivers and board support packages to Ubuntu. Once certified, devices are continuously tested in Canonical certification labs and so benefit from long term technical support.
