Processor Technologies
Ubuntu Server Edition is optimized for multi-core processors whether 32 or 64bits. The Kernel team is working closely with Intel and AMD to implement the latest features the processors allows, and integrate the latest drivers the chipsets permits. This includes the following technologies:
AMD
AMD Cool'n'Quiet* & CoolCore* technology, to reduce power consumption of servers
AMD HyperTransport* technology, reducing latency and increasing throughput on RAM access
AMD Multi-core technology, to balance your loads on each of your processor(s) core
AMD-V*, the virtualization technology embeded in the processor which offloads part of the software virtualization work to the hardware (see virtualization)
Intel
Intel I/OAT* which allows faster TCP/IP data transfers
Intel VT*, the virtualization technology embeded in the processor which offloads part of the software virtualazion work to the hardware (see virtualization)
Intel AMT* (Active Management Technology) which allows to discover and heal systems over ethernet
Intel NIC drivers, to get the most out of the your network cards
Intel EIST*, allowing to reduce the power consumtion of servers
Intel storage drivers, to access your SAS and SATA drives efficiently
Intel Multi-core technology to balance your loads on each of your processor(s) core
